One to watch for on the Rodeo Trail: Quenah Blake

Here’s Quenah Blake’s story on how he got started in Team Roping, and how he’s gonna make it to the top of the charts in the team roping standings:

I first started roping when a family friend gave me a rope and a dummy. I took to it throwing 350 loops every two days. Soon I was training a horse to rope while I was learning to rope off a horse. Now I am competing and roping in high numbered ropings. I’m loving every second I have in the seat of my circle y.

Two accomplishments I have achived is my 3.98 run and in every roping I’ve gone to I have advanced to the short round.

Two things I am working at is making teamroping my career and not just a huge part of my life but my entire life. Secondly I want to also heel in competitions.

My quote is speak softly and carry a big stick because I want my actions to speak louder then my words.

Just jamming out to Macklemore & Ryan Lewis.

For those of you that know me.. Know that I love music! I love getting involved with the music business, and I love working with Social Media! So, I decided to write about a duo that I haven’t had a chance to see live in concert yet.. But, from what I saw on the billboard music awards inspired me to chase my dreams a little bit farther.. Without further ado, here is my Music Monday Blog post on:

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis

1d504cd6f74a788fb91cb1e1dea1350c

You see the guy in the pink button up? That’s Macklemore from Seattle, Washington. Macklemore, is a rare breed he was born to stand out & not fit in with the rest of the crew. Hence his crazy style, that he rocks on stage every night! Macklemore, has been through the good, bad, and the ugly. For example, Macklemore entered rehab for  Oxycontin abuse and came out in 2008 as a new man. But, in 2011 he slipped and had a cough syrup obsession.. 2013, things changed.

The guy in the green button up is Ryan Lewis he’s an American Music Producer from Spokane, Washington. Ryan, is a  musician, music video director, photographer, graphic designer, and DJ currently based in Seattle. It all started for Ryan in 2006 at a Macklemore Concert.

Macklemore_The_Heist_Tour_1_cropped

Well.. Sort of! You see, there is a social media site called “Myspace” and in 2008 Ryan decided to send Macklemore a message on Myspace. It went to this..

From Myspace, it went to this song..

So.. When you’re at a Thrift Shop looking for a cute outfit for whatever occasion.  Macklemore & Ryan Lewis don’t let anyone hold them down from their dreams!

Here we are in May..

They aren’t just making records, they’re setting them: biggest-selling download of 2013, the first duo to send their first two singles to No. 1 on the Hot 100. And they’ve done it all their way.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, made the cover of Billboard magazine this month

& they also took home

The Top Rap Song for “Thrift Shop” tonight at the Billboard Music Awards!

Some people say this duo was an over night success.. But, what you don’t know is all the work they put into this over night success.

Chase your dreams, and don’t be afraid to work hard. The hard work your doing now, will pay off in the end and give you great success.

Just remember..

(Lorraine) Lori McKenna

American Folk

Singer / Songwriter

Stoughton, Massachusetts

December 22, 1968

So, the other night while I was working on a new vet project I decided to crank up some good jam up tunes to help me get through the grueling hours I’d have to spend on a new project I was just starting. So, while I’m scrolling through the front page of Spotify.. I see a section of EP’S that some new artist’s just released. One of the EP’s that caught my attention was Lori McKenna NEW EP:

I’m a HUGE fan of new music, and I’m always listening to NEW artist’s EP’S every chance that I get. That’s one of the cool thing’s about working in the music business is meeting / listening to all of these artist’s amazing store’s that come out in their music! Okay, back to Lori McKenna NEW EP ” Heart Shaped Bullet Hole” this EP is amazing! Amazing, as in it has a great variety of song’s on it with different meanings! One of my favorite track’s on  Heart Shaped Bullet Hole would have to be “Whiskey And Chewing Gum” written by Lori McKenna and Troy Verges! I don’t like it just because of the title of the song, the lyrics are just amazing.. One of my fav line’s of the song is:

Some love’s like whiskey it ain’t right but it gets you drunk

Numbs you for a little while – until the morning comes

When you finally figure out you can never drink enough

Some love’s like chewing gum it tastes good when it’s new

But it don’t take long until it’s tired and it’s tasteless to you

Lori McKenna, is an amazing songwriter! At the sweet age of 27 Lori became a professional songwriter. Lori, has had cut’s from some of today’s BRIGHTEST country music star’s. For Example:

Faith Hill

Mandy Moore

Sara Evans

Tim McGraw

Jimmy Wayne

Lori, write’s some of the most amazing song’s. The lyric’s in her music are so REAL, and our everyday thing’s that most of us today go through. I’m a huge fan of REAL music, and music that has meaning. If you can’t feel the song, then what’s the point of listening to it?

Lori McKenna

Hope y’all have a wonderful Music Monday!

#MusicMonday – Brandon Jenkins

I’m that girl who doesn’t hate Monday’s.. Why? Well, because Monday’s are #MusicMonday’s to me! I get to listen to music all day, and work! Can’t get any better than that can it? Nope, I don’t think so 🙂

Any who, I’m gonna introduce yall to one of my FAVORITE red dirt / Texas Country artists.. Ready?

Over 6 feet tall, Shaved Head, Tattoos blazing

Singer – Songwriter – Red Dirt Legend

BRANDON JENKINS!

Genre: Rock. Blues. Soulful. Poetic. Rowdy. Fun

Brandon Jenkins, is not a typical artist you see every day in the music scene! In fact, he has worked his you know what off to finally get noticed in today’s music industry!  Brandon, had his first record deal in 1994 with Alabama Label Raney Records. Had a great couple years of  touring the country, and performing at the hottest country dance hall’s. Then, one day the label tried to change him and make him a hat act (meaning they wanted him to be a longhaired cowboy hat/trucker hat act). But, that wasn’t Brandon Jenkins style.

In 1995, Brandon left the label and signed with manager R.C. Bradley who works with Dwight Yoakum, and Jim Lauderdale!  Spring came along, and Brandon decided to finally make the move to Nashville.. But, guess what? Thing’s didn’t work out as planned either!

Everywhere I went they told me the same thing; that I had a great voice but I didn’t have the right look, or my song was too risqué.

Year, and a half passes by and Brandon Jenkins decides he’s heading back to Oklahoma.. This time he’s going his own route, and doing his own thing!

I decided from here on out I’m going to be myself , and damn the consequences.

Ever since Brandon Jenkins left those labels, and decided to go his own route he has been  sharing the stage with some HUGE heavy hitters for example: Willie Nelson, Charlie Daniels, Robert Earl Keen, John Anderson, Jack Ingram just to name a few! Not only is Brandon a great performer he’s also an EXCELLENT songwriter just a few of the artists that have pinned Brandon songs are: Stoney LaRue, Bleu Edmondson, No Justice!

P.S – All of you Stoney LaRue fan’s out there.. You know that song called ” Feed Don’t Touch The Ground” Well, guess who wrote it? Mhm, Brandon Jenkins wrote it! Here’s the song below for those of you who haven’t heard it yet.. ENJOY 🙂

For everyone out there that is either struggling, or trying to make it / chasing your dream DON’T GIVE UP! Everything takes time, and nothing happens over night. The thing’s you work hard for that take longer to achieve mean SO MUCH MORE! Here’s to the dreamers, and the one’s that never give up.. This song’s for you!

(Move it forward 3 minutes to hear “Too Big To Fail” )

*Cheers* To this Music Monday & I hope yall have a wonderful Monday!

Music Monday Artist; Cody Johnson Band

Cody Johnson Band

I’ve had it up to here

My paychecks done cleared

Now I’ve got everything I need to go and have a good time

And when my day is done you know I’m gonna go find me a little bit of fun

Get hemmed up somewhere with a kiss off tonight

And I’m good and ready for at least a time or two

I’ve heard all the words about the stuff I’m not supposed to do

I never was a Texas Country music fan until a year, and a half ago.. Ever since then I have been listening to Texas Country Music non – stop!

Texas Country: Texas country music (more popularly known just as Texas country or Texas music) is a rapidly growing sub-genre of American country music. Texas country is known for fusing traditionalist root sounds (similar to nontraditional country) with the outspoken, care-free views of outlaw country!

I’m a NEW Texas Country music fan, and a new fan of the Cody Johnson Band. I say new because I have only been listening to the “Cody Johnson Band” for about 3 months now.  Ever since I came across the Cody Johnson Band on YouTube I have been hooked ever since! I have never seen the Cody Johnson band perform live yet.. Well, because I live in a small town in Tennessee and not a lot of Texas Country artist’s come out here and play that much.

As I was reading Cody Johnson’s bio on his website (http://www.thecodyjohnsonband.com/index.php) I found out some pretty interesting information.. Did you know that Cody Johnson worked for the Texas Department Of Criminal Justice in Huntsville supervising prison inmates before he took his singing career seriously? Yeah, me either we learn something new everyday about our favorite artists. Cody Johnson’s latest album “Six Strings, One Dream” had a couple great charting songs with ” Texas Kind Of Way” that landed #6 on the Texas Charts along with “Pray For Rain” that hit #1 and “Nobody To Blame” #6!

But, there’s more to it folks.. The Cody Johnson Band wears my favorite kind of jeans! Can you guess what brand? Ha ha! Yes, it would be Wrangler’s.. I mean, do you blame me? 😉

Check out this new Wrangler 20x video with Cody Johnson

If I had to choose one of my favorite “Cody Johnson” songs it would probably be this one..

I hope y’all have had a great Music Monday,  until next time.. Keep Rockin on!

The ROCK in Rock N’ Roll Cowgirl finally makes it’s appearance..

Happy Music Monday Everyone!

Today, i’m gonna write about probably one of my favorite heavy metal bands.. Alice in Chains! Ever heard of these guy’s before? If not, I hope you become a fan of these guy’s after reading this blog post!

Funny this is.. My mother raised me on heavy metal, and all kind’s of different genres of rock music. People say it’s a bad thing.. But, I look at it as a good thing because everyone’s different in their own unique way. And, music has a funny way of describing us with in their own ways.

Enough, about why I chose to talk about this band. I mean, obviously their pretty rocking or I wouldn’t have chosen to future this band in my #MusicMonday post! But, y’all wanna hear some interesting facts about this band and how they got started right? Well, let me begin in my word’s how this band got started.. And, why I’m such a huge fan till this day!

Alice In Chains is an American Rock Band, yes they are all from America. Alice In Chains formed the band in 1987 in Seattle, Washington by lead guitarist and songwriter Jerry Cantrell and original lead vocalist Layne Staley. Then came a long drummer Sean Kinney, and bassist Mike Starr shortly after who is now replaced by Mike Inez.  Alice in Chains came out of the early ’90s grunge scene that included Nirvana, Pearl Jam, and Soundgarden. The band became known for their distinct vocal style, as well as the harmonized vocals between Layne and Cantrell.

In 2002, Alice In Chains had a terrible loss in the band.. Layne Staley, passed away from a heroin overdose.  Layne, struggled throughout his career with severe drug addiction, culminating with his death in April 2002.  Layne, also played in a couple other bands Mad Season, Class of ’99, and Sleze. Everyone that is a fan/friend/family of Layne, knows how much he is missed each and every single day. It’s sad too see the good one’s go, but what I do know is that Layne is in a better place, and no longer suffering.. You will  be forever missed Layne by (ME) one of your Rock N Roll cowgirl fans.

Not only is it the harmonies that attract me to this band’s music, it’s the lyrics.. Their real, I have been through some of the battles these guy’s been through with life, and family. I LOVE listening to REAL music that has meaning. Alice In Chains is REAL they are a heavy metal band that I grew up listening too when I was young, and till this day I’m still listening to their music either on my I-Phone on the IHeartRadio radio station or on Spotify.

I wanna know.. What’s your favorite Alice In Chains song? Or, do you have a favorite heavy metal band that you like to listen too? Don’t be shy, I promise I won’t bite 😉
